Apple iPhone Duo: 7.6-Inch Display, A20 Pro, Camera, Price & Features

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, its first-ever foldable iPhone. Announced on September 9, 2026, the new iPhone combines a pocketable 5.4-inch outer display with a much larger 7.6-inch inner display, along with the A20 Pro chip, a new camera system, iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, and a redesigned user experience built specifically for its foldable form factor.

Apple says the iPhone Duo is designed to bring the flexibility of a larger screen without giving up the convenience of a phone that can easily fit in a pocket. When opened, it is also the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made.

Apple iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable iPhone

The biggest change is, of course, the design.

When closed, the iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display. Apple says this provides about 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro while maintaining a compact form factor that can be comfortably used with one hand.

Open the device, and the experience changes completely. The inner display expands to 7.6 inches, making it the largest display ever featured on an iPhone. Apple says the inner screen is 50 percent larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Both displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally when the phone is opened or closed.

Nano-Texture Display

Apple has also introduced a special nano-texture finish on the inner display. The finish is designed to reduce glare and reflections while making the display feel more comfortable to use.

The displays also support:

  • ProMotion
  • Always-On display
  • Up to 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness
  • Nano-texture finish on the inner display

Apple says the nano-texture surface also helps minimise the visibility of the crease.

The company will additionally bring Apple Pencil with USB-C support to iPhone Duo later this year, allowing users to take notes, sketch, and mark up documents on either display.

Premium Titanium Design and Durability

Apple is positioning the iPhone Duo as a premium foldable rather than simply a larger iPhone with a hinge.

The device is built using Grade 5 titanium and features a mirror-polished finish. Its precision hinge uses more than 100 components and is designed to provide a smooth opening and closing experience.

The iPhone Duo also includes:

  • Ceramic Shield on the back
  • Ceramic Shield 2 on the front
  • IP68 water, splash, and dust resistance
  • Reinforced internal structure
  • Scratch-resistant protection for the inner display

Apple says Ceramic Shield 2 offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation. The inner folding display also uses a custom protective coating and nano-textured cover layer designed to withstand everyday use.

48MP Camera System

Apple has also redesigned the camera experience around the foldable form factor.

The iPhone Duo features a 48MP Fusion Main camera capable of capturing photos at up to 48MP resolution. It also offers an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option through the main camera system.

The main camera features a large sensor, fast aperture, sensor-shift optical image stabilisation, and a new computational photography pipeline designed to improve detail and low-light performance.

There is also a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, which supports wider shots and macro photography.

For selfies and video calls, Apple has introduced a Center Stage front camera that can automatically adjust the field of view and orientation.

New Camera Features Made for the Foldable Design

One of the most interesting aspects of the iPhone Duo is how its two displays can be used together with the cameras.

Smart Take

Smart Take uses on-device AI models running on the A20 Pro to analyse a scene in real time and automatically capture a photo when people are ready.

Duo Preview

With Duo Preview, the person being photographed can see a live preview on the outer display. This makes it easier to check framing and pose before the picture is taken.

Duo FaceTime

Duo FaceTime uses the outer display and camera to allow another person nearby to participate in a video call without everyone having to crowd around a single screen.

4K 120fps Video

The main camera supports 4K video recording at 120fps in Dolby Vision. Apple says this enables smoother slow-motion effects and gives creators more flexibility when editing footage.

The phone also supports Cinematic effects after capture and improved Audio Mix features.

iOS 27 Gets a Foldable-Friendly Experience

Apple has redesigned iOS 27 to take advantage of the iPhone Duo’s larger inner display.

When the device is opened, users get additional space for apps, widgets, and multitasking. The system interface has been adapted so controls can move to the sides of the display, leaving more vertical space for content.

Apple has also redesigned elements such as the Dynamic Island and status bar to work with the two-display design. Content can automatically adapt as the phone is opened, closed, rotated, or flipped.

Split View Brings Multitasking to iPhone

One of the biggest software changes is Split View.

For the first time on iPhone, users can open two apps side by side on the large inner display.

For example, users can:

  • Browse Safari while using another app
  • Open two Safari windows
  • Move between multiple apps quickly
  • Use Siri AI while viewing content
  • Save pairs of apps for later use

This makes the iPhone Duo particularly interesting for productivity and multitasking.

Apple says apps including Netflix, Zoom, Slack, and Detail are already taking advantage of the larger foldable display.

Apple Intelligence and New Siri AI

The iPhone Duo also brings Apple’s next-generation AI features to the foldable experience.

The new Siri AI is being introduced as a beta with iOS 27. It is designed to understand personal context, interact with information on the screen, and help users perform actions across apps.

Siri AI can work with information from areas such as:

  • Messages
  • Emails
  • Photos
  • Calendar
  • On-screen content

Users can also have a conversation with Siri while continuing to view content on the other side of the display.

Apple Intelligence also introduces features such as Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an upgraded Clean Up for photos.

Apple says its AI approach uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute to maintain privacy and security.

A20 Pro Chip and Performance

Powering the iPhone Duo is Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Apple claims the iPhone Duo delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro when combined with its new thermal management system.

The A20 Pro includes:

  • 6-core CPU
  • 7-core GPU
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine
  • 2nm process technology
  • 50 percent more unified memory bandwidth

Apple says the CPU is up to 20 percent faster than the A19 Pro, while the GPU is up to 40 percent faster and more power efficient. The new Neural Engine also provides twice the compute power for on-device AI workloads.

To help maintain performance during demanding workloads, Apple has added a custom vapour chamber thermal system.

Battery Life

Despite the foldable design, Apple says the iPhone Duo delivers all-day battery life.

The device uses a dual-battery architecture, with a high-energy battery positioned on each side of the phone.

According to Apple, the iPhone Duo can provide:

Battery TestApple-rated Result
Inner display video playbackUp to 31 hours
Outer display video playbackUp to 44 hours
Mixed usage with both displaysUp to 24 hours

The phone can charge to 50 percent in around 20 minutes using fast charging. Wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a compatible MagSafe or Qi2 charger.

Connectivity and eSIM

The iPhone Duo uses an eSIM-only design worldwide.

Apple says eSIM is supported by more than 500 carriers globally, including Airtel, Jio, and Vi.

The phone also features Apple’s new N1 wireless networking chip, which supports:

  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 6
  • Thread

It is paired with Apple’s C2 next-generation cellular modem system, which brings AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability.

Colors and Storage Options

Apple is offering the iPhone Duo in two finishes:

  • Star White
  • Night Sky

The phone starts with 256GB storage and is also available in:

  • 512GB
  • 1TB
  • 2TB

This gives buyers up to 2TB of storage, which could be particularly useful for users who capture a lot of high-resolution photos and 4K video.

iPhone Duo Price in India

The iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900 in India for the 256GB model.

Apple will offer the device in more than 70 countries and regions, including India. Pre-orders begin October 16, 2026, with availability starting October 23, 2026.

Apple has also announced dedicated accessories:

  • iPhone Duo Case: ₹8,900
  • iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand: ₹14,900

Both accessories can be ordered from October 16.

Final Verdict

The iPhone Duo represents Apple’s biggest design change to the iPhone in years. Instead of simply increasing the screen size, Apple has created a device that can switch between a compact 5.4-inch smartphone and a much larger 7.6-inch display.

The combination of the A20 Pro chip, 48MP camera system, iOS 27, Split View multitasking, Apple Intelligence, Siri AI, and dual-display experience makes the iPhone Duo a very different proposition from Apple’s traditional iPhone models.

However, the ₹2,99,900 starting price puts it firmly in the ultra-premium smartphone category. For buyers who want a foldable iPhone and value a large display for productivity, gaming, photography, and multitasking, the iPhone Duo could be one of Apple’s most interesting products yet.

For everyone else, the price will be the biggest factor to consider.

Apple is clearly treating the iPhone Duo as more than just its first foldable phone. It is an attempt to combine the convenience of a smartphone with the larger-screen experience of a tablet — while keeping the familiar iPhone ecosystem at the centre of the experience.
