How Apple Pay Works
For contactless payments, users can double-click the side button on their iPhone, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or their passcode, and hold the device near a compatible payment terminal. Apple says the payment process doesn’t require entering a PIN or OTP at checkout.
Security and Privacy
Apple says Apple Pay doesn’t share the user’s actual card number with merchants. Instead, it uses a unique Device Account Number, which is securely stored on the device’s Secure Element.
Supported Merchants and Services
Apple says Apple Pay can be used with participating merchants and services in India, including names such as Blinkit, Croma, Ixigo, Tata 1mg and Zomato. Apple has also partnered with several payment service providers to support Apple Pay transactions.
What This Means for Indian Users
The launch gives compatible Apple device users another option for making card-based contactless payments. However, the initial launch is limited to eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards, so not every Indian bank card can currently be added to Apple Pay.
